POWERPLAY: M – Pop Muzik (Internationally Trained Bunnies Remix) (Echo Beach)
On May 12 of 1979 light of the day saw M's single "Pop Muzik" which hit No 2 in UK Top 40 straight away. Band's frontman Robin Scott describes the genesis of "Pop Muzik" this way: "I was looking to make a fusion of various styles which somehow would summarize the last 25 years of pop music. It was a deliberate point I was trying to make. Whereas rock and roll had created a generation gap, disco was bringing people together on an enormous scale. That's why I really wanted to make a simple, bland statement, which was, 'All we're talking about basically (is) pop music". The 12-inch single version was notable for the B-side having a double groove such that the two tracks ("Pop Muzik" and "M Factor") both started at the outer edge of the record and finished in the middle (with a long silence at the end of "M Factor" since the track was the shorter of the two). This resulted in a random selection of tracks, depending on which groove the needle landed in in the lead-in. Thirtieth anniversary of the song is celebrated by remix pack release, where we like Internationally Trained Bunnies version most of all. (information courtesy of wikipedia).

POWERPLAY: Sebastien Leger – The Rhythm (Format B Remix) (Mistakes)
French electronic house music don Sebastien Leger is back to his finest form after releasing LP "Planets" in 2007. Original is a tough drum track with cut offs vocals, while Format B has that bass line that make you move.

POWERPLAY: Dennis Ferrer – Hey Hey (DF's Attention Vocal Mix) (Objektivity)
Simple and not soulful as intended to be made by Dennis Ferrer himself, vocal though. It's definitely made in and for digital era, adn this sounds as very modern house music. This track really works on dancefloor, a bullet.

POWERPLAY: Reboot – Enjoy Music (Defected)
This is new skool, old skool house at its finest; a quality housed up beat that's just sonically brilliant. Reboot's feet are firmly planted in the German House scene that can currently do no wrong in our eyes. This is MASSIVE.

POWERPLAY: Motor City Drum Ensemble – Raw Cuts #6 (MCDE)
It's been nearly nine months since Danilo Plessow released a record in his Raw Cuts series, but the young producer hasn't been resting on his laurels. There's been an EP for 2020Vision, one for Four Roses, an excellent remix of DJ Sprinkles' "Grand Central, Pt I". "Raw Cuts #6" is the slow burner. In many ways, its lengthy build-up recalls Plessow's non-Raw Cuts productions under the MCDE name. Hovering underneath the chiming keys and steady beat, there's a lovely drone that slides along almost imperceptibly that adds a wavering sense of menace to the track. Things pick up when the de rigeur anonymous diva makes her way into the track, but it never gets much past this solid, driving groove. In the hands of the right DJ, though, this should be all they need to build into something beautiful.
