POWERPLAY: Paul Rogers & Pete Tong – Get It (Original Club Mix) (What Ep) (Toolroom) This is third collaboration of mighty Pete Tong with Londoner Paul Rogers. They worked together on Tong's TV theme "Inca Trail", on soundtrack for "Harry Brown" and finally spawned three tracker entitled "What?" on Toolroom Records. "Get It" from this EP reminds us the best examples of groovy house music from the late 1990's, which sounds very modern indeed. |
MOVER & SHAKER: Art of Tones – The World As I Live It (Room with a View) Ludovis Llorca is behind Art of Tones project. He presets an EP, which is the fruit of his inventive vision of what retro-futuristic Black rooted club music should be today. The 3 tracker is a perfect example of what House music can offer at its best when roots, history & identity are not forgotten on the way. The title track The World as I Live it is an hypnotic loopy builder that never stops building and create a unique climax, a kind of vitaminised version of Mr Parrish’s Ugly Edits. The track has proved to be an instant favorite of many House heavyweights such as Tony Humphries, Kink, Mike Monday or D’julz. We choose this as mover and shaker in the show. |
POWERPLAY: Craft B. feat. Veronique – Climbing (Original Mix) (Amber Muse) This has been a secret weapon from Bogdan's record box for the past year ad a half since the original instrumental was produced in Craft B studio. Last year we were finding a proper vocalist for this uplifting piano groover and found Veronique from Detroit, who's vocal/lyrical skills were honed with Detroit House Music legends Aaron-Carl (Wallshaker Music), Derwin Hall (UR) and Delano Smith (Mix Mode Recordings). This is already supported by big guns like Grant Nelson and others. |
POWERPLAY: Johnny Dynell – Jam Hot (Tensnake Remix) (Smash Hit Music) In 1990 Johnny and his wife Chi Chi Valenti opened their own nightclub Jackie 60, an influential underground party that ran for the entire decade, and evolved into the full-time Meat Market venue Mother. Upon the club’s closing in late 2000, Dynell found his way back to his first love - spinning – and began writing dance music again, including the Pink Martini hit “Una Notte a Napoli”. As 2010 began, Johnny was DJing, remixing for artists including the B-52’s and Sia, and writing new material. In 1983, while spinning at Danceteria, producer KENTON NIX (Heartbeat, Funky Sensation) and fellow DJ MARK KAMINS (who had just produced Madonna’s debut single) collaborated on Johnny’s first record "Jam Hot". This quirky, infectious ditty about Graffiti kids and breakdancers was a radio breakout, cult classic and Dynell’s first outing as a songwriter/artist. Its refrain “Tank, Fly Boss, Walk, Jam, Nitty Gritty / Talkin’ ’bout the boys from the big bad city / this is Jam Hot” has been sampled in dozens of songs worldwide. In 2009 the term “Jam Hot” made it into the Urban Dictionary. Now, Smash Hit Music assembles a dream roster of remixers and producers for the Johnny Dynell's "Jam Hot", and Tesnake is among them.

MOVER & SHAKER: Jazzloungers feat Natasha Watts – Hold On (Seamless Twelves) Seamless Twelves revisits one of the tracks from label's favourite Jazzloungerz. Originally put out on the Seasons EP last year, Hold On features the fantastic vocals of Natasha Watts and received great reactions and support from people like Alfred Azzetto, Ralf Gum, Dj Meme, Stonebridge and Peter Gelderblom to name just but a few and so it was decided Seamless should give the excellent vocals for 2010. |
